Purpose: As digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) has been increasingly used in breast cancer screening, we evaluated benefits of DBT-guided biopsy compared to stereotactic biopsy.
Materials and Methods: From April 2020 to January 2021, 20 patients who underwent digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT)-guided biopsy or stereotactic biopsy were included. We compared the success rates, examination times and exposure doses of DBT-guided and stereotactic biopies.
Results: All 20 patients had suspicious microcalcification on screening mammography. Among them, 14 patients underwent DBT-guided biopsy and 6 underwent stereotactic biopsy. Four patients were diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ and the rest were benign pathology. DBT-guided biopsy reduced the number of scans and radiation dose compared to stereotactic biopsy (mean 12.8 ¡¾ 3.4 mGy to 5.6 ¡¾ 2.1 mGy, P<0.001). Examination time tended to decrease with DBT-guided biopsy without statistical significance (mean 15.2 ¡¾ 7.4 min to 10.2 ¡¾ 3.0 min, P=0.131).
Conclusion: DBT-guided biopsy has advantages over conventional stereotactic biopsy, especially in reducing the radiation dose and examination time.
